North Star u19s finished in second place in the BNI u19 Boys league with an overall record of 11 - 3. The boys finished just one game behind the winners Belfast Star and will rue missed chances in their three losses all of which were extremely close games. It was still an impressive season for the squad which has improved year on year since finishing bottom of the u14 development league just 3 seasons ago. The boys now look forward to the Huge BNI Cup final clash versus Belfast Star on Sunday 21st March. During the season North Star lost out in Belfast and won in Derry in two verly closely contested games and the final is expected to be another tight affair.

A difficult game where North Star failed to get into any kind of rhythm, while Blackstone capitalised on key turnovers. Scores from Stanley, McGuinness and McLaughlin allowed North Star to keep the game close early, however as the first half progressed the Ballymena team built a 5 point lead with Michael Murray finding his range.
North Star started the second half with a greater sense of urgency with several key stops to build a 6 point lead with Hugh Barbour finding his range from the perimeter, while Seamus Soal visited the free throw line. Turnovers became a factor in the second half as North Star handed Blackstone several uncontested layups. Michael McDonald hit a key 3 point shot with under a minute left to kill the game off and hand North Star its third defeat of the season.

Elks 44 North Star 56
North Star had to work early against Elks to get a foot hole in this game as the Jordanstown team worked hard on defense. Kevin Stanley proved crucial as he dropped 10 points in the first quarter and gained the attentions of the Elks guards. Aaron Temple deputised for Barbour in the second quarter, acquitting himself well with several key moves to the basket.
North Star stepped up the defensive pressure in the second half with pressure man to man. The Elks struggle to cope as McGuinness scored quickly with 2 steels. Neil McLaughlin’s hard work paid off in the fourth quarter as he was fouled on several occasions while going to the basket and North Star would end their season with a comfortable win.
