North Star 51- 46 Belfast Star
Another good defensive display has the Derry team sitting atop the BNI league after a tough victory over league favourites Belfast Star. O’Connor led the way for Star early, with some quick scores off good transitional play. However North Star would keep within striking distance as Kevin Stanley found his range along the baseline.
North Star held the Belfast team to only 7 points in the second quarter while adding 18 to lead by 6 at the half. Star picked the pressure up in the second half forcing some turnovers, however more often than not the pressure was broken and McGuinness and McLaughlin found easy baskets at the opposite end.
North Star continued to work hard extending their lead to 10 late in the third as Star continued to press with back to back scores from Cochrane. Both teams exchanged scores in the fourth with North Star visiting the free throw line and holding out for a 5 point victory.
