Belfast Tropics 75 – 66 North Star

North Star lost out away to Belfast Tropics on Sunday in a tough and closely contested game. The first half was close with little to show between the sides. Both teams were playing good defense with North Star’s zone making the tropics take tough shots and the tropics trapping and ball pressure leading to poor options for North Star.

The Tropics two American imports Will Maloney and Ed White were the main scoring threats for the Belfast team with Maloney’s drives and White’s inside – out game making them difficult to stop. Like wise North Star’s American Chris Sumner led the way for his team scoring from outside and with strong drives to the basket.

At the start of the second half the tropics opened up a 10 point gap with some good fast breaking basketball and three pointing shooting from former North Star player Gary Campbell. It was a gap that North Star could never close, often cutting it to 4 or 5 points but never having enough firepower to regain the lead. North Star looked tired from their cup game vs Star the previous day and didn’t play with the same intensity as the tropics who ran out deserved winners by a score line of 75 – 66.

North Star: C. Sumner 31, J.Ward 10, K. Stanley 10
Tropics: E. White 30, W Maloney 27
